American Ninja Warrior: Re-Live Kacy Catanzaro's Epic Run To Be First Female To Qualify For Finals
In case you fancied your chances, the application deadline for being a contestant in season eight of American Ninja Warrior closes this Sunday 17 January. If you do decide to enter, a great reminder of the type of athlete you'll be up against is American gymnast Kacy Catanzaro in the above video.
Catanzaro ensured her place in American Ninja Warrior history back in 2014 by completing an epic run to become the first female to reach the finals, held in Las Vegas. The run that put her there also saw her finish by climbing the infamous 14-foot Warped Wall, the first woman to ever do that too.
She completed the course in 8 minutes 59 seconds, a feat which saw host and former NFL defensive Akbar Gbaja-Biamila declare, "I've seen greatness during my NFL career. And I've been in awe of people, but I am really in awe of Kacy." With co-host Matt Iseman claiming, "We are seeing one of the greatest competitors—man or woman—we have ever seen in America Ninja Warrior."
It's certainly an impressive run, and has made her one of the most famous contestants in the show's history. It also spawned a hashtag #MightyKaty.
Unfortunately when she got to Vegas she failed the first round of the finals, but her inspiration, and her hashtag, lives on. She competed again in 2015's season seven but was knocked out in the qualifiers. Let's hope she's entered for season eight.
