Artist Paints Pop Culture Icons Into Thrift Store Paintings And The Results Are Amazing
We've all come across those unwanted paintings in thrift stores, sitting there unloved on the shelves. At one point they sat upon someone's wall, taking pride of place above the fireplace, looking down upon the family, watching them grow each day while it remained unchanged.
Then, for whatever reason, it was discarded, given away with a box of old clothes before it ended up at the store or in a yard sale, destined for landfill. That is until artist David Irvine gets hold of them and upcycles them by adding in characters that give the paintings a new lease of hilarious life. It's a series he calls Re-Directed Art.
The characters can range from movie monsters of old to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, rubber ducks, witches, Spider-Man, whatever takes his fancy really. He trades under the name Gnarled Branch and you can check out a selection of his work below. Head to his Facebook page or website for more. And you can purchase prints of his work here.
