Banksy's Back And He's Been Working Undercover In Gaza Painting Giant Kittens - #Bansky
Banksy's been relatively quiet since his New York residency back in 2013, but now he's very much back with some new work in Gaza and also a mini-documentary called Make this the year YOU discover a new destination.
The video highlights the continuing occupation of the Gaza strip and oppression of the palestinians while ironically portraying Gaza as a great tourist destination, as well as debuting four new pieces.
These include a statue with its head in its hand among the bombed ruins of Gaza City, children riding a chair swing ride attached to a surveillance tower, a giant kitten playing with a yarn ball of gnarled metal, and a quote scrawled in red on a wall.
Speaking about the kitten Banksy writes:
A local man came up and said 'Please - what does this mean?' I explained I wanted to highlight the destruction in Gaza by posting photos on my website – but on the internet people only look at pictures of kittens.
While also saying:
Gaza is often described as 'the world's largest open air prison' because no-one is allowed to enter or leave. But that seems a bit unfair to prisons - they don’t have their electricity and drinking water cut off randomly almost every day.
