Dumbledore And Gandalf Are To Marry Right Across The Street From The Westboro Baptist Church HQ
Ireland recently voted to become the first country to legalize same-sex marriage and everyone rejoiced at such a forward-thinking move. Nearly everyone anyway.
One group who weren't too happy with the results was, yep, the Westboro Baptist Church.
However, out of their hate has come something good. Because after the news of Ireland's historic vote JK Rowling tweeted a meme about Gandalf and Albus Dumbledore getting married.
The Westboro Baptist Church picked up on it and tweeted the following, to which JK Rowling hit back appropriately.
. Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls.
Picking up on this, and not wanting to miss out on an opportunity to troll the WBC, a non profir called Planting Peace is going to host a mock ceremony between Gandalf and Dumbledore in Topeka, Kansas this weekend, right across the street from the WBC HQ.
They own Equality House which sits opposite the church, which they bought so they could counter the WBC hatemongering, oppose its anti-gay campaigning, and generally spread peace and love, man. The wedding will take place there, featuring two actors as the wizards.
"When we read the battle between JK Rowling and the Westboro Baptist Church, we instantly connected with Ms Rowling’s message on many levels," Aaron Jackson, founder of Planting Peace told the Irish Times. "We must actively stand up to hate and ensure that LGBTQ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer] youth understand that they have a broad platform of love and support in this world. We are delighted to be hosting the Dumbledore and Gandalf wedding and stand with them in the face of bigotry and celebrate equality for all."
The wedding takes place this Saturday June 8th and will be live streamed. You can also donate to the the organisation and help fund the nuptials here.
