Ferrari Race Car Driver Josh Cartu Takes An Insane MiG-29 Edge of Space Flight

It's probably a lot of kids' dreams when they grow up to whizz along in a race car or fly high in a fighter jet. Josh Cartu has managed both of these. Cartu's day job just happens to be Ferrari club president and test pilot/race car driver for Ferrari/AFCorse Racing. And for fun he is also a member of Team Wolfpack.

He also recently accomplished the MiG-29 Edge of Space Flight.

The Stratosphere Flight lets people fly at supersonic speeds in a twin-engine jet fighter designed in the Soviet Union. The MiG-29 can travel at twice the speed of sound and the Edge of Space Flight hits speeds of up to MACH 1.9 and a maximum altitude of 65,000ft.

If you have the inclination and around $12,000.00 to spare it's the only way (apart from becoming a fighter pilot) that you'll get to break the sound barrier in a fighter jet.

Wearing a high altitude suit Cartu takes up the challenge, flying up into the stratosphere with test pilot Sergey Kara. After a debrief they head on up flying to a height twice that of commercial airliner. Up there Cartu gets to witness the blackness of space and stars shining, even though it's the middle of the day.

At this maximum height Kara rolls the jet over so that they can see the curvature of the earth before they start to descend. It's on the descent that Cartu gets to experience some acrobatics and some crazy G-Force that can go up to 9g.

It looks insane and intense, in fact it's intense enough just living it vicariously by watching this video. Undoubtedly it's a helluva lot of fun too though.
