Hover Cars - French Artist Turns Everyday Autos Into The Flying Vehicles We Always Wanted

As a symbol of the future the flying car is hard to beat—at least, it is when it comes to works of science fiction which have put it up there with the jet pack as the most coveted of future-objects.

But even though we’re living in futuristic times with robotic limbs, immersive virtual reality, and surgeons due to perform human head transplants, there’s still no sign of cars that levitate above the ground. Oh cruel world!

Nevermind, we’ll just have to make do with French artist and designer Sylvain Viau series Flying Cars. The series imagines various cars—which Viau photographs and also owns many of—like Citroëns, Peugeots, Toyotas, VWs, and Renaults, without wheels. Instead they hover satisfyingly off the ground.
