Is This The Future Of Luxury Cars? The Rolls-Royce 103EX Certainly Looks The Part

If you were wondering what the rap stars of the future might be rolling and being hated in, Rolls-Royce have unveiled their futuristic concept car for us all to drool over. The Rolls-Royce 103EX is a driverless glimpse into how the rich and famous of the future might get around.

Visually it looks very high concept, the car itself is nearly 20ft long with immense 28 inch wheels— it's like something out of a Hollywood movie. "Our vision, in its purest form, is to create the automotive equivalent of haute couture. This is the future of luxury mobility.” says Rolls-Royce.

Even though the car is huge it only seats two people, the idea being inside is your own little retreat from the world. A place of Macassar wood-panelling and an interior laden with silk and ivory-colored wool carpets, a place that's supposed to evoke the comfort of your living room rather than the interior of a car. The entire roof opens up to give you a skylight too.

Inside there is no steering wheel either or controls but there will be a large OLED TV screen and also a virtual assistant called Eleanor. "‘Eleanor’ becomes their virtual assistant and chauffeur, freeing them of all effort and encumbrance." runs the press release. "Imbued with her own artificial intelligence, she works intuitively to advise her owners on itineraries, schedules and options before they leave their residence, reminding about appointments and tasks and making suggestions to ease any anticipated impediments." She'll also be able to ready the car and, somehow maybe via an app, bring it to your front door when you're ready to use it.

While it will be an electric driverless car there are no exact technical specifics on how it will work, but electric motors could be built into the wheel hubs or under the floor to maximise the cabin space.

Their vision of the future also means that customers get to customize their vehicles, "the customers’ taste will influence the exact design of his or her Rolls-Royce and how it will be configured." say the company.

“With the Rolls-Royce VISION NEXT 100 we were mindful not to dwell on the past. We wanted to be as innovative as possible and at the same time transcend the design history of the marque”. says Giles Taylor, director of design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. "It is an expression of our intrinsic understanding of the possibilities for a true luxury brand and the desires of its customers. Rolls-Royce design today is the epitome of elegance and this elegance is achieved through simplicity of design under which lies the technology that makes our patrons experience effortless.”

You can check out more of the design in the images and videos below, which includes a VR 360 YouTube vid which lets you look around the interior.
