The Mike Pence Email Hack Gives Twitter A Great Opportunity To Have A Hilarious Field Day
The Mike Pence email hack shows that you should be careful what you tweet, because something Pence once tweeted about the Hilary Clinton email server scandal has now come back to bite him.
It turns out that Mike Pence also used a private email account, it happened when he was governor of Indiana. And he used it to send emails relating to homeland security matters and more. Not only that but the email account was compromised by a scammer last summer.
The IndyStar obtained some of the emails through a public records request.
And they're pretty embarrassing for a guy who once commended the FBI for reopening the case against Clinton for her used of a personal email server "because no one is above the law."
. and I commend the FBI for reopening an investigation into Clinton's personal email server because no one is above the law.
Mike Pence Email Scandal - Or Double Standard?
The emails show that, not unlike Clinton, Pence conducted state business from a personal account. Not only that, but it was an AOL email account, which is unforgivable because who the hell uses AOL email any more?
So is this recent email incident a political scandal for Mike Pence, or just a case of double standards?
From the USA Today:
Cybersecurity experts say Pence’s emails likely were just as insecure as Clinton’s. While some have speculated about whether Clinton's emails were hacked, a scammer actually compromised Pence’s account this past summer, sending an email to his contacts claiming that Pence and his wife were stranded in the Philippines and in urgent need of money. Corey Nachreiner, chief technology officer at computer security company WatchGuard Technologies, said the email accounts of Pence and Clinton were probably about equally vulnerable to attacks.
"In this case, you know the email address has been hacked,” he said. “It would be hypocritical to consider this issue any different than a private email server.”
Charges of hypocrisy in relation to the Mike Pence email controversy were immediately levelled at the vice president and the Trump administration.
People made note that while Clinton was vilified for it, potentially costing her the presidency, Pence has done exactly the same and he's VP.
Here's the statement Pence has since replied with: "Similar to previous governors, during his time as governor of Indiana, Mike Pence maintained a state email account and a personal email account. As governor, Mr. Pence fully complied with Indiana law regarding email use and retention. Government emails involving his state and personal accounts are being archived by the state consistent with Indiana law and are being managed according to Indiana’s Access to Public Records Act."
