Porsche's Mission E Concept Car Is An All-Electric 600bhp Rival To Tesla's Model S
Porsche have taken a swing at Tesla and their Model S with the unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show of their Mission E. The all-electric concept car is due to go into production within three to three and a half years.
And it's a beast. Albeit a theoretical one. It's 600bhp sports car with four doors, four individual seats, four-wheel drive, two luggage compartments, and goes 0-62mph in under 3.5 seconds. And does an 80% charge in just 15 minutes. It's a stunning vehicle that looks like a normal Porsche on some serious steroids.
"Electric drive. E-Performance, Porsche style. Integrated in a harmonious overall concept. Concept Study Mission E sets the stage for tomorrow. With its design and its technology, it provides answers to the question of the sports car of the future." say the company.
Part of the reason it has to wait before going into production, reports Top Gear, is the company need to wait for the technology to catch up to their figures above. But it's a bold and beautiful vision, a compact but powerful car, with a front styled on the Porsche 918 Spyder super sports car.
The company are laying it down as their vision of the sports car of tomorrow, one that says goodbye to fossil fuels and embraces all-electric power with a definite emphasis on performance. "With this car we intend to start a new era with Porsche, similar to the 911 fifty years ago." Wolfgang Hatz, Porsche's R&D boss, told Top Gear. "[We're] building the best electric car in the world. Do that, and people will buy it."
