Stunning Underwater Timelapse Shows Marine Animals Looking Like Alien Lifeforms

The ocean is a weird place. You only need to have caught a few minutes of a national geographic documentary about the deep sea to know that. And it constantly surprises too.

Sometimes those surprises are nasty, sometimes they're otherworldly and magical.

This video by filmmaker Sandro Bocci is the latter. Called ...meanwhile... it's a short film that explores corals, starfish, and other marine life but shot at high magnification under ultraviolet light and time-lapsed, all set to some strange music by Maurizio Morganti.

The result is an enchanting few minutes of bizarre-looking creatures that's both fascinating and slightly terrifying.

And as alien as anything you might find on another planet.
