The Trailer For 'Roar' Features A Cast Of Lions That Constantly Mauled & Gored The Actors & Crew
It's not the tantrums of the actors that needed to be tamed in this film, but rather the cast of dangerous and aggressive big cats. The film starred Hollywood actors Tippi Hedren and Melanie Griffith and saw The Exorcist producer Noel Marshall take up the helms of director while also starring in it. It's known as Roar and is something of a cult classic and is due to be released into American cinemas in April thanks to Drafthouse Films who recently acquired it.
It originally came out in 1981 and follows the insane-sounding premise of a wildlife preservationist who lives among cheetahs, elephants, lions and tigers on a preservation in the African plains. The preservationist's wife and child arrive and a territorial fight between two of the lions spills over and threatens their lives.
The trailer tells you all you need to know really. Because real animals were used in the shoot—around 100 real lions, tigers and other big cats—the actors and crew suffered various injuries as they were mauled, bitten, and attacked by these untamed beasts.
According to the trailer Griffith had to undergo facial reconstruction surgery. You don't get that with CGI.
